“手はあたかも人のように” - 竹田光幸
手像木彫刻に取り組んだのは1980年の40代のことだった。欅の木を組み合わせた高さ3mを越す大作「雄渾なる手」がその始まりだった。 以来30年以上テーマとしてきた「手の彫刻」は私にとって彫刻への厳しさ、楽しみ、大切さ、面白さなどの感動を与えてくれた。“手はあたかも人のように”…… 手が考え、手が語り、手が生み出す、そうした手で表せる最も人らしい愛のかたちの表現は人間に与えられた唯一の特典である。 私は手を通じて、心とかたちの理想美を手の彫刻に求めた。

I started sculpting human hands in 1980. My first hand sculpture was built from sculpted pieces of zelkowa wood into a large work of art more than 3 m in height, that I named “Powerful Hand.” “Hand sculpture” is now a theme spanning more than 30 years and has come to symbolize qualities such as the unforgiving nature, joy, significance and fascination that sculpture has held for me. Like people, “hands think, reveal, create and are able to express the most human form of love, all of which are privileges solely accorded to man. Hand sculpture is my quest for an ideal beauty that combines both mind and form.
「手如其人」ー 竹田光幸
1980年起我投入了手像彫刻的世界。以櫸木組合而成，超越3m的巨型作品「雄渾的手」，就是我的第一號作品。長達30年以上以手為主題的「手像彫刻」，讓我對彫刻有了嚴肅、快樂、重要、有趣等感動。「手如其人」──手會思考、會訴說、會生產，可以用手來表現人類之愛的型態，正是上天賜予人類的獨特恩典。透過手像彫刻，我在手像之中追求身心理想之美。
